The townhouse was once the neighborhood’s priciest listing
Oh, how times change: A Carroll Gardens townhouse that in 2012 became the neighborhood’s priciest listing at $4.1 million is back on the market for $5.45 million, a price tag that pales in comparison to the perennially on-the-market, off-the-market townhouse at 181 President Street, a few blocks over, that’s currently on offer for $9.5 million.
To be sure, the $5.45 million townhouse at 356 Sackett Street is lovely in that historic-details-meet-modern-upgrades kind of way. That blend shows up in the main floor’s soaring tin-covered ceilings and decorative fireplaces featured alongside an open kitchen with waterfall white marble countertops. An added bonus: the kitchen’s south-facing windows overlook a leafy backyard with a large bluestone patio.
The second floor master suite includes an ensuite bathroom and Jack-and-Jill walk-in closet that connects to the floor’s second bedroom. Three additional bedrooms top out the third floor, where there’s also a full bath and laundry room. The finished garden level features yet another bedroom, a full bathroom, and a living room with a wet bar that lets out onto the rear yard.
The basement was excavated to standing height in order to become a kid-friendly rec room.
The townhouse is owned by Lovely Bride CEO Lanie Lift, who chronicled the challenge of making the townhouse both chic and kid-friendly in a 2016 interview with Domino. One of the biggest renovations Lift undertook on the property since purchasing it in 2012 was digging out the basement to make it a fully functional haven for kids, with foam padded floors and a giant chalkboard wall.
Lift has been looking to offload the townhouse on and off since 2018, when it was listed with Corcoran for $5.95 million. The townhouse is currently listed with Douglas Elliman.
