Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can buy for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man’s studio another man’s townhouse? Let’s find out! Today, we’re looking at apartments for sale for around $700,000.

East New York

For $725,000, you could buy a 2,205-square-foot house in East New York. The two-story home has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a bright and spacious living area, a large deck, and a patio on the lower level. It sits on Highland Boulevard, steps from Highland Park and the Ridgewood Reservoir. The nearest train is the J at Cleveland Street. Taxes for the property are $492/month.

Meanwhile, in Battery Park City, the exact same amount of $725,000 buys a one-bedroom condo. The light-filled unit has a spacious living room, a renovated kitchen with a dishwasher, and (perhaps most importantly) its own private balcony. Plus, the building amenities include a common roof deck, a children’s playroom, a swimming pool, and a gym. Taxes are $815/month, while maintenance charges mount to $787/month.

Heading up north in Manhattan, this bright two-bedroom condo in East Harlem is asking $675,000. It has a roomy living area, large windows, bamboo floors, an in-unit washer/dryer, and a 190-square-foot private balcony. The building has a gym, a bike room, and a common roof deck. It sits on East 104th Street, between First and Second avenues. Taxes are $830/month and common charges $1,158/month.

The 1,194-square-foot condo has two and a half bathrooms, large windows, and an in-unit washer/dryer. Some additional perks include a common rooftop and a gym in the building. It sits on Greystone Avenue, near Van Cortldandt Park and the 1 train at 238th Street. Taxes are $287/month and common charges $821/month.

Upper East Side

Finally, on the Upper East Side, this chic one-bedroom co-op is asking $715,000. Though the bedroom is small, the living area is spacious and has large windows, high ceilings, and a wood-burning fireplace. The co-op, which sits on East 73rd Street, mere steps from Central Park, has a common laundry room and an elevator. Maintenance charges are $1,383/month.
