The 19th-century house on Green Street has gotten a major upgrade

After an extensive renovation, one of Greenpoint’s humble 19th-century homes—one that was reportedly once owned by a ship’s captain—is back on the market for $5 million, making it one of the priciest properties for sale in the neighborhood.

The home, which is divided into an owner’s unit and a separate two-bedroom apartment, is quite lovely, enough so to merit an Architectural Digest feature earlier this year. The owner, stylist Katie Mossman, told AD that she wanted the home “to feel like California,” which translated—eventually, after a revamp that took five years—into a space with huge windows, a good amount of outdoor space, and lots of clean lines. There’s also a quasi-Brutalist vibe, with concrete walls and a floating concrete staircase in the great room.

The spectacular owner’s unit has three bedrooms, including a master bedroom with a positively enormous walk-in closet, access to a terrace, and a marble-drenched bathroom where “it always feels like summer,” according to Mossman. The kitchen was updated with a custom Carrera marble island and new appliances, though the home’s old exposed beams remain. And in between the great room and a small backyard shed, there’s a serene patio with a stone wall and plantings.

On the lower level, a two-bedroom apartment is available as an income-generating unit for the buyer. The chic home at 76 Green Street is listed for $5 million with Patricia Vance of Douglas Elliman.
