The home, designed by Usonia architect Aaron Resnick, is 70 miles from New York City

You don’t see too many midcentury modern homes for sale in New York City, but travel a ways outside the five boroughs—not even 100 miles—and you’ll find a bevy of beautiful homes inspired by architectural greats like Frank Lloyd Wright or Philip Johnson.

This particular midcentury stunner, located in LaGrangeville, was designed in 1954 by architect Aaron Resnick, one of the founders and longtime residents of the planned community of Usonia. That community features a handful of homes that were based on designs by Wright, but executed by Resnick and his partner, David Henken.

While the home in LaGrangeville isn’t part of that community—it’s located about 44 miles north of Usonia—it’s designed around similar principles: a single-story home, filled with organic materials (slate flooring, stone walls), open-plan communal spaces, and ample connections to the outdoors. Landscaping around the house makes “the structures feel nestled, natural and unified with the surroundings,” as the brokerbabble puts it. Even better? It’s listed for just under $1 million.

The centerpiece of the three-bedroom home is the expansive living and dining area, which has a large fireplace surrounded by natural bluestone, beamed ceilings with two large skylights, and floor-to-ceiling windows that emphasize the connection to nature. Built-in birch shelves lead from the living area to the kitchen, which also has modern touches like a wine fridge and subway tiles.

The home at 205 Emans Road is listed for $999,999, with Jill L. Rose of Houlihan Lawrence.

Original built-in shelving remains intact in the living room and kitchen.
The kitchen also has open shelves and subway tile backsplashes.
Natural materials, such as slate tile and bluestone, can be found throughout the home.
Bedrooms also have beamed ceilings and large skylights.
The home is located on an eight-acre lot that’s surrounded by trees.
