Midtown East’s One Vanderbilt has an opening date
The supertall will cut the ribbon next year, but its observation deck won’t open until 2021
Almost three months after topping out, the developers for One Vanderbilt, one of Midtown East’s tallest skyscrapers, have revealed the tower’s opening date and details on its sprawling 1,000-foot-high observatory.
The 1,401-foot-tall tower, developed by SL Green and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, will officially debut on August 4, 2020, the New York Post reports.
At a presentation earlier this week, SL Green unveiled details about one of the supertall’s most notable features; its observation deck. The 71,938-square-foot observatory, which has reportedly been named “The Summit,” will be located on the tower’s 57th through 59th floors and managed by Hines, which SL Green formed a joint venture with, the Post says.
Designed by Snøhetta, with an immersive experience created by Kenzo Digital, the observatory will have glass floor ledges that overlook Madison Avenue, an infinity room, and an outdoor terrace with food and beverage options. But it still has a long way to go, as it won’t open until late 2021.
The Post also revealed that the restaurant by Daniel Boloud, which will also have a home at the supertall, will open earlier, at the end of 2020. As we previously reported, TD Bank will be the building’s anchor tenant, but, according to the Post the 1.67-million-square-foot tower has 533,657 square feet left to rent.
One Vanderbilt is located right next to Grand Central Terminal, and has been going vertical since 2017.
