The Empire State Building Honors Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary This Weekend

It’s a big weekend for Sesame Street!

On Sunday, November 10, the famously influential show Sesame Street will celebrate its 50th Anniversary. In honor of the milestone, the Empire State Building will light up green and yellow this Sunday night.

Adding to the celebratory weekend, today (Friday, November 8) has been named “Caroll Spinney Day” in NYC, honoring the puppeteer and original Big Bird/Oscar the Grouch performer Caroll Spinney! Big Bird accompanied Spinney to the Empire State Building earlier today to kick off the weekend of festivities with an official lighting ceremony.

We can tell you how to get to @SesameStreet – just look inside the #EmpireStateBuilding! Thanks to #BigBird & #CarollSpinney for stopping by for today’s #Sesame50 lighting ceremony. 💚💛pic.twitter.com/zJjbCS87pN

Earlier this year a street on the Upper West Side (on 63rd Street and Broadway) was officially named “Sesame Street.”
