The MoMA Will Reopen This Month With Massive Renovations

The Museum of Modern Art is currently undergoing a massive upgrade and expansion that has spanned the last four months, but it will be reopening to the public this month!

On Monday, October 21, the public will be able to enter a reimagined MoMA that’ll feature more gallery space and room to host live performances/programs. The renovations will add 40,000-square-feet to the current museum in order to display more of the museum’s permanent collections and “exhibit significantly more art in new and interdisciplinary ways.”

At the heart of the museum, visitors will now be able to enjoy the space known as the “Studio” where they’ll find “live programming and performances that react to, question, and challenge histories of modern art and the current cultural moment.” There will also be a second level Creativity Lab which will be dedicated to art education of the past, present, and future. And potentially the most exciting aspect will be the free street level galleries that are intended to “better connect the Museum to New York City and bring art closer to people on the streets of midtown Manhattan.”

Upon opening day, guests will be able to see the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Wu Tsang, Faith Ringgold, and various installations among other notable artists.

According to a recent report by Vogue:

“‘Acupuncture’ is how the museum’s director, Glenn D. Lowry, describes the expansion, bringing new        life, air, and energy into a building that could seem weighed down by its own importance.”
