Eleanor and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were married in this East 76th Street townhouse

On March 17, 1905—several decades before arriving at the White House—Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt got married at the Upper East Side mansion (made up of two separate townhouses) where Eleanor’s godmother lived. Now, a co-op inside one of those two houses, which sit within the Upper East Side Historic District, has hit the market, asking $1.999 million.

The 1,400-square-foot co-op, located at 6 East 76th Street, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living area. The brokerbabble touts its “Parisian” feel, with details like plaster molding, oak floors, two wood-burning fireplaces, large windows, chandeliers, and 10-foot ceilings.

According to the Landmarks Preservation Commission’s designation report, the five-story, neo-Italian Renaissance building was built between 1895 and 1896 by Parish & Schroeder. Its facade—which shares a “columned portico” with No. 8 next door—features grey Roman brick, limestone, roof cornice, and an iron balcony. The house’s “mirror image” with its contiguous structure gives it a “grand palazzo” appearance, the LPC’s report says.

It’s located at 6 East 76th Street, close to Central Park and near the 6 train at 77th Street. Maintenance fees are $3,330/month. Phillip Salem, Alexandra Van Buren, and Jim Bartoes of Triplemint have the listing.
